Keynote address

Tools and technologies for forming community? Yes We Can!
It was not so long ago that people may have considered the words 'technology' and 'community' as polar opposites. This is no longer the case. This presentation will focus on how web-based technologies afford communication across time and space to enable the growth of community, provide connections that enrich people's lives, and assist in managing the information flow in a data rich world.

Some background

Michael Coghlan was teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in the classroom when he decided to become a volunteer online ESL teacher in 1997. He is a founding member of the Webheads online community. He is an eLearning Facilitator for TAFE South Australia, the Australian Flexible Learning Community, and also works as an independent elearning consultant (NewLearning.com). He has designed and delivered online courses in ESL, eModeration, and New Learning Technologies. He has written widely on issues to do with elearning, and has presented at several national and international conferences, both physically and as a remote presenter. (See http://users.chariot.net.au/~michaelc/articlesetal.htm) His particular current interests are networked learning, the role of social software in learning, and the impact of the Internet on society. Much more about Michael can be found on a rambling web1.0 site at http://users.chariot.net.au/~michaelc/

EXTRA RESOURCES

I've come across these two very relevant resources from Nancy White since my presentation:

1) Technology Stewardship and Unexpected Uses
2) The cultures of collaboration
Distinguishes the difference in collaboration approaches for communities, teams, and networks.
